Queensland Small Business Security Grants — Round 3 now open

October 31, 2026•3 min read

Queensland small businesses may be able to get help paying for practical security upgrades through the Small Business Security Grants under the Secure Communities Partnership Program Round 3, run by the Department of Customer Service, Open Data and Small and Family Business (CDSB).

This is not a competitive scorecard. Applications are checked for eligibility on a first-come basis, and funding can close early if the Round 3 pool is exhausted. Applications opened at 9am on 23 October 2026 and close at 5pm on 23 April 2027 (Brisbane time), or earlier if funds run out.

What the grant can cover

If you are eligible, you can apply for up to 50% of eligible project costs (excluding GST). For fixed premises (or combined fixed and mobile projects), the grant is typically $2,500–$20,000 on eligible jobs of at least $5,000 (ex GST). A $1,500 minimum grant applies only to mobile-only projects (eligible project costs from $3,000). The grant cap is $20,000, so on projects above $40,000 (ex GST) you pay the balance yourself. You also pay GST. Grant money is paid into your business bank account — not the installer’s.

Eligible work can include equipment, installation, configuration and training for:

  • CCTV / surveillance

  • Intruder and duress alarms

  • Access control and entry management

  • Intercoms

  • Security lighting and environmental security

  • Physical security items

  • Mobile / vehicle security

Not covered: monitoring subscriptions, ongoing maintenance, freight, travel, app costs, or anything bought or committed to before your funding agreement is signed.

Who may be eligible

Check the official eligibility checker first — this is a guide only.

You typically need all of these: 19 or fewer employees by headcount (owners, contractors and volunteers don’t count); aggregated turnover of $10 million or less in 2025–26; an active ABN that is GST-registered with Queensland as the main ABR location; at least one year trading on that ABN; and a business that mainly sells goods or services to customers. You must not be insolvent, and you must not have already received funding under Round 1 or 2 of this program.

Statewide Queensland. Residential-only projects are out. One benefit per business. You do not need a crime history to apply.

Property owners or lessors may apply in some cases where upgrades directly benefit eligible small-business tenants — see the program guidelines.

Quotes and timing — important

  • The business applies (or a property owner/lessor where allowed). The security supplier cannot lodge the application for you.

  • Quotes should be formal, on letterhead, and itemised. Jobs over $15,000 need a second independent quote.

  • Labour (install + configuration + training) must be no more than 50% of the eligible project value.

  • Do not pay a deposit, sign a works contract, or start installation until your funding agreement is accepted.

How Secure Edge can help

Secure Edge installs CCTV, access control, alarms, intercoms and related security across Nerang, the Gold Coast and SE Queensland. We can provide a grant-ready quote and a site visit so you know what’s practical for your premises — then you decide whether to apply.

We can’t guarantee you’ll be approved. Only CDSB assesses eligibility and funding.
